Search Technology Center Asia (STCA) STCA was founded in year 2005 and is now starting the second “Five-Year Plan” after the merge with the Ads Platform Center in 2011. The new team has not only built up its strengths and expanded its scope, but also set a shared goal, broadened its vision, and equipped with richer resources that gives the team the confidence to scale new heights. STCA is now focusing on the following areas: the continuous exploration of Bing search technology; the technical innovation of online advertisement services; the development of the MSN social platform; and the development of mobile search applications. Today, STCA has hundreds of excellent employees and is the largest R&D team of the Microsoft Online Service Division outside the United States.

The Search Technology Center Asia (STCA), located in Beijing, China, is part of the Bing Core Search group and the major leader and contributor to the “Win in China” initiative. STCA has been working in partnership with Redmond teams and Microsoft Research Asia to deliver innovative Internet Search products and services to China, Japan, Korea, and global Internet markets. Search Platform Team Search Engine is by far one of the most demanding distributed computation applications at the largest scale in the world. Search Platform Team’s mission is to provide the most scalable high performance and cost efficient platforms for Bing – the fastest growing search engine today. To deliver the highest quality search results to billions of users, there are many challenges in search platforms from various aspects including understanding the user search queries, search service trend, search algorithms and computer hardware. Roles and Responsibilities: As a Senior Development Engineer on the STCA Search Platform team you will play a key technical leadership role, working with talented developers, testers and program managers to design, develop, and ship cutting edge search indexing and serving platforms and services to enable highly search quality and cost effective services. You will have the opportunity to lead in the following areas: – Understand and articulate the search platform needs and requirements in China and worldwide, and contribute to the product roadmap and strategy for OSD search platform development – Drive the engineering rhythm and process of the team from planning, resource allocation, design, coding, deployment, and support of search serving operations – Provide architectural and engineering leadership – Drive engineering excellence and deliver product with uncompromising quality on schedule – Work closely with MSRA research teams to rapidly transfer innovative technology to Bing If you’ve dreamed of shaping the future of Search with Bing in China and worldwide, this is the ideal role for you. Qualifications: As a Senior Development Engineer on the STCA Search Platform team, you should feel comfortable working in a fast pace environment. You should possess a strong technical background and a good grasp of software engineering principles, exceptional problem solving, design, programming, and testing skills. You should be self-motivated and self-directed and able to collaborate and mentor team members. A demonstrated ability to come up-to-speed quickly on a new technical domain is required. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, written communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment are very important. Additional qualifications for this position include: – 5+ years of relevant system software design, development, and shipping experience. – Great design and problem solving skills, with a strong bias for quality and engineering excellence at scale. Our code runs on thousands of machines on multiple continents, so bring your ‘A’ game. – Outstanding coding chops in C/C++. – Demonstrated experience shipping products on time and with high quality. – Experience in OS, distributed systems and multi-threaded programming is strongly preferred – Experiences in large scale online services engineering and operation a strong plus – Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (Masters or PhD preferred).
